Robert Amos has painted homes in Victoria since 1975. He is a specialist in the field, and has painted every different sort of architecture and interior. Over the years his ability to paint gardens accurately, and to recreate historical settings has given him a unique place in the field. It is, in fact, his ability to convey context - the ambience of the neighbourhood - which has made his work special. Every year dozens of families work with him to create heirlooms of the future. Often the house is the main feature, but other commissions have included gardens, views, automobiles, etc.

An Amos commission is really a collaboration between artist and patron. The painter begins with an on-site visit and fills his sketch book with notes. Photography of the site usually follows, providing a basis for the accurate drawing and underpainting. Once agreement with the client is reached, the painting begins. These days the collaboration is facilitated by frequent emails of the work in progress and conversation about all aspects of the developing painting. Once the underpainting is agreed upon, then Amos usually sets up his easel on-site and gives the painting the final touches of freshness and atmosphere for which his work is admired.

The painting is not complete, of course, until all parties are satisfied.

Commissioned paintings are priced by size. Typical prices are:

12 x 16 inches $850.

16 x 20 inches $1200.
