ROBERT AMOS, R.C.A.

Artist and Author

Robert Amos has devoted himself to painting Victoria since 1975. In addition to his paintings he has been the art writer for the Victoria Times Colonist newspaper since 1986. Recently his interest in James Joyce has resulted in hundreds of pieces of calligraphy and ceramics and the interior of Victoria's James Joyce Bistro. In 2008 he was invited to spend a month in Japan, exhibiting his work at the Canadian Embassy in Tokyo and as a featured artist of the Ome Art Jam. He has published five books of his artworks, including Victoria Sketchbook and Artists in their Studios.

This is a painting of the interior of Canada's oldest Chinese temple. The temple, located at Government and Victoria Streets in Victoria, is featured in Robert Amos's new book, Inside Chinatown, a photo survey of all the meeting halls of the Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association.

A show of original acrylic on wood panel paintings has been created to accompany the book Inside Chinatown. The paintings are all for sale and can be viewed at Legacy Gallery.

You are invited to visit Robert Amos Studio and Gallery, located near the Cook Street Village, near Beacon Hill Park and downtown Victoria.

The gallery is open by appointment; You can contact Robert Amos by email at:
